Do you subscribe to the old ways?

I ask this question because my mother drilled into our heads (five brothers & four sisters and me) from an early age that Valentine's Day was for the man to honor his woman. It was a day where he could wine and dine her or bring her flowers and candy. To let her know how special she was and how thankful he was for everything she did for him throughout the year.

Are you a modern woman who spends lots of cash on your beau? If so, what's your thought process?

As a writer I'm interested in relationships. I've been married for thirty-three years. For Valentine's Day, my husband gets me roses but not the traditional red roses, but a mixed bouquet of red, pink, white and yellow for their symbolism.

Red symbolizes passion, romantic love and courage.

Deep pink for romance sends a message of gratitude and appreciation.

White roses (my mother's meaning symbolized true love) According to the internet they symbolize Purity and Innocence. They represent happy love.

Yellow roses express friendship.

You ask what do I do for my husband? I used to get him his favorite chocolates but he's cut back so I buy something sexy for after dinner. Or if we feel like staying home instead of going out on that day in particular. I cook a candlelight dinner and serve it in the above special treat.

However you celebrate, may your love last a lifetime and be filled with happiness, respect and trust.

The red rose has always been my favorite of all flowers, not just because of the romantic symbolism or the deep sensation of passion brought on by the color, but also for the symbolic demands of respect and strength! Her thorns! The mix of elegance, beauty, and sharp thorns (not to mention, roses are hard to care for!) has always made the flower feel like a strong, independent woman to me. I'll accept no other flower. LOL.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I expect a valentine's gift from my boyfriend. LOL. I DO give him a little something, usually in the form of something lacy and pink that only stays on for about 3 seconds. LOL.

I agree. I love red roses and I feel the man should step up to the plate on Valentines day.

I subscribe to your mother's view...I always did love white roses! And, I'm with you on the man bringing roses, that is if you're lucky enough to have a man, which I don't. But I can vicariously enjoy YOUR roses!

Thanks, Regan, I hope you enjoy them.

Beautiful roses. My hubs has been slacking on flower-giving recently--lol. But when he does remember, I prefer red or pink. I've been getting mostly chocolate the past few years, and that's been a pretty good replacement. ;-)
